My New Nephew

Hey! It feels like I've been away forever. But no worries, I will be posting quite regularly until I've filled you in on all the scoop! For starters I recently made a trip to Virginia (my hometown) to meet my brand new and incredibly handsome nephew!

The initial idea was for me to arrive a few days early, so I that I could capture maternity photos and be present to get images at the birth also. Of course, as life would have it, things don't always go according to plan.

During my sister's final prenatal visit the OB grew concerned at the size of the baby (big) and the babies position (footling breech). His fears led him to scheduling a cesarean for the following morning ( about week earlier than expected).

Little (and I use that term lightly) man, came into the world weighing a whopping 10lbs! That's right, wow-wi-wow! He was Jaundice, so kept in the hospital an extra night, but otherwise as perfect as can be!

My sister was about sore as expected after a surgical delivery, but she's always been a trooper. Her husband and I were both available to help care for her, the baby and my darling 4 year old niece.

**I interrupt this blog post with an Important announcement from my niece- "Do NOT open your door for black zombies they bite! The pink ones are nice, (they don't bite) and the purple ones only bite a little"**

My Snowy Valentine

The snow moved in, so class was out!

While we had some free time, I pleaded with my 6 year old son, to allow me 10 mins to snap a few Valentine photos.

I was aware I may not get many quality photos in this time frame, but one is better than none, right?

He of course couldn't resist turning my request into more of a barter (who do I think I am, trying to get something for nothing).

His request was I would have to play Disney Xfinity with him on the Wii U.

You might be thinking well that's a simple enough request, but I assure you it's a much bigger task than you could imagine in this household. My sweet boy can go from angelic to hellion in a matter of seconds (I'll touch on that in a future post).

Video games have never been my thang, but the truth is, being in front of the camera has never been his. So I willingly obliged.

Of the photos made, I believe the first and the last ones are my favs. The first one just screams "Jon". He collects figures of all sorts, so naturally, I wanted to incorporate them.

The last image is just so stinkin' adorable. His big boy teeth are one of my favorite attributes...just look at that smile with his monkey friend in tow!

Do you barter with your kids on certain things?

My Baking Valentine

Love day, as the kids and I call it, is my absolute favorite day of the year! I'm such a hopeless romantic, and having a day surrounded with tons of love and affection just warms my soul to the core.

As a tradition each year, I create a mini Valentine's Day session of my children. With so many things going on and the month of January slipping like quicksand through my fingers, I was uncertain if I would get afforded the opportunity this go around. Interestingly enough, when we woke this morning schools were closed anticipating winter weather. I jumped at the chance to capture a few images. Here's the highlights from a sweet moment in the kitchen, as my 12 year old daughter made treats for her younger brothers.

P.S. We didn't get snow today, but they are calling for 1-3 inches over the weekend. I am hoping to capture some photos of the boys then.

Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions?
